Woodturning - The Log That Bleeds Red!
I'm Back! After a bit of time away from posting new original videos on the main channel I'm back and planning on uploading at a more regular pace.
In this video I take a large piece of Box Elder and turn it into a signature vase. I am really pleased with how this one turned out even though I would have liked to have seen some of that pinky/red wood in the final design, its a shame it seemingly stayed close to the pith. I do have a crotch piece from the same tree that was given to me by my arborist mate Connor so looking forward to turning that soon and seeing the grain! Stay tuned!
This vase was sanded to 3000 grit and finished with three coats of Danish oil and a coat of wood wax.
Let me know what you think!

My videos are for entertainment purposes only. Some of my techniques might not be the "best" or safest, so when using any tool or machinery always read and understand safety/manufacturers guidelines first.
And Yes, I'm aware that wearing gloves while woodturning is considered an unsafe practice. The gloves I wear are tight-fitting and don’t have any loose threads. I wear them for the protection of my skin. This is a risk that I am willing to take, however I am still very conscious of the potential danger and I do not touch any spinning parts of the lathe. DO NOT copy my actions if you feel unsafe doing so.

Woodturning - Not What You Might Think?!

I thought it would be cool to make a small bowling pin bottle stopper with the remaining piece of bowling pin I had left over after my Christmas project. The pin has been sanded to 320 grit and finished with sanding sealer and a melamine spray. Let me know what you think, I think it is really cool and something that comes with a great story. #bowlingpin #woodturning #woodworking Social Media: I...

I started this piece a few months ago and wasn't sure what to do with the crack, so had it sat on the side waiting for me to think of an idea. That's what I love about Woodturning, no two pieces are the same, and every piece of wood has its flaws. I knew I wanted to preserve the crack in some way so thought the best way was to lace it in leather strips. How do you think I did? The piece has bee...
Woodturning - Making the Most out of this $300 Oak Blank!

I've had this large oak burly blank in the workshop waiting for my Bowlsaver Max 4 to arrive, it is the perfect way to save a smaller part of your blank to be used in a later project, especially when the grain of the wood looks this good! Have you got any ideas for the smaller piece I removed? The figure is excellent! The natural cracks in the bowl were filled with Black Milliput and sanded to ...

I love most sports, but none more than rugby. Unfortunately, its not one of the most popular sports in the world, and I hope that one day it'll become big in the US as I love how massive American Football and the Superbowl celebrations are. I can't pretend I know all of the rules of American football but I do love the spectacle and support the Buccaneers. With the spectacle in mind, I decided t...

This piece of wood came from a large Holm oak crotch cut around 10 years ago. My Tree surgeon mate found it when he was doing some work taking out a large pine at a local school. Every now and again I head to his yard to scavenge some bits and pieces and the crotch really caught my eye. It was definitely punky in places although I think it somewhat adds to the beauty. I have got a load more chu...

I've had the little "offcut" mallet in the workshop for so long, it was originally the base for a mushroom I was making a few years back that broke, so it was never intended to be in use for so long, just a temporary mallet, or so I thought. When I was tidying up the workshop the other week I came across this lovely piece of cherry I knew I had to use it as the handle, it wasn't big enough for ...

I love working with Yew but didn't know how I wanted this piece to look before I started to get into the turn. Yew always has such amazing character and I wanted to try something a little different, which is why I added the 4 "legs" in the middle of the piece. I hope they become some point a talking point and the focus of this piece, I especially like the differences in finish between the two a...

In this video I make two snowmen out of Spalted Silver Birch. When I was looking for a piece of wood for this project I came across this Silver Birch that I had cut about 2 years ago. The long black lines are perfectly highlighted ...

Beautiful, and I LOVE the angled rim on this, it really makes it! Got to admit I was a little nervous when you stuck a gloved hand inside the spinning piece for sanding around the @6:40 mark; it showed err... true dedication, shall we say.
